Recognized internationally for her musicality, Yu-Ting Hsu is a Taiwanese violist who began her musical journey at the age of 5 on piano and 7 on viola. Hsu earned her bachelor’s degree in viola performance from Taipei National University of the Arts under the guidance of Min-Yen Chien, where she also minored in piano and violin performance. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Hsu moved abroad to the United States, pursuing her master’s degree and Graduate Certificate degree, with full scholarship, at the University of Southern California under the instruction of Yura Lee and Che-Yen Chen.

As an active musician in Los Angeles, Hsu is involved in a wide capacity of musical activities as a solo musician, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and music instructor. Hsu received prizes in the 1st Annual Viola Competition and Taiwan Viola Competition, and has performed as a soloist with the Spring of Voice Symphony Orchestra. Hsu has worked with various masters throughout her career, including Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Maxin Rysanov, and Hsin-Yun Huang.

Hsu is also a highly sought chamber musician and is currently a dedicated member of the Delirium Musicum Chamber Orchestra. Most recently, the group performed their project “Treelogy”, an exciting performance that celebrates and strives to save California’s iconic trees. Hsu is also a member of the American Contemporary Ballet, where she played the show “Astaire Dances”. She has performed concerts with Victor Coo from the Taipei University of the Arts, the Asian Youth Orchestra, and participated in selective chamber music festivals such as Bowdoin Music Festival, Mattheiser Music Festival, and Great Mountain Music Festival. As an orchestral musician, Hsu has performed concerts throughout Europe, the United States, China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. She was invited to play with One-Song Orchestra in Taiwan, a group specializing in the merging of Eastern and Western music. Hsu has performed in many iconic concert halls as assistant principal, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hammer Theater Center, Green Music Center, and National Concert Hall in Taiwan.

Aside from her performing career, Hsu is also an extremely qualified educator with years of experience. She grew up in a very musical family; her mom runs a successful music school in Taiwan, instilling in her the passion for music education dedicated to the pursuit of high level playing. Hsu teaches students from various ages and musical backgrounds, including beginning to advanced levels for violin, viola, and piano. Outside of her musical profession, she enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, playing basketball, and biking.
